PDW Donatess to BTA and Northwest Trail Alliance

PORTLAND, OR - Portland Design Works (PDW) is proud to announce it is kicking off 2011 by making matching $2,400 donations to Oregon advocacy groups the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and the Northwest Trail Alliance.

“We see the value of what these outstanding organizations are doing for cyclists in our region,” said Dan Powell of PDW. “On a daily basis we’re able to take advantage of the work they do and we’re happy to support them.”

As life-long mountain bikers, Powell and business partner Erik Olson have been blown away by the quality of work the Northwest Trail Alliance has done on recent projects at Sandy Ridge and Stubb Stewart State Park.

“We’re stoked by the announcement and the generous commitment from PDW,” said Tom Archer, President of the Northwest Trail Alliance. “We have a number of projects and initiatives on the board for 2011 and this work would not be possible without the support of a growing number of local businesses like PDW who share our vision.”

As daily commuters, Olson and Powell benefit from the BTA’s initiatives. In addition to the recent donation, PDW partnered with the BTA last fall by donating $9,000 worth of taillights to be used as membership premiums and to reinforce the message of the importance of staying visible on the roadway.

"PDW embodies Portland's bicycle culture in both their products, and through their commitment to local nonprofits like the BTA through 1% for the Planet,” said the BTA’s Tom Rousculp, Membership Development Manager. “We’re proud to be a partner of Portland Design Works."

PDW is a cycling accessory company based in Portland, Oregon. The company is a member of 1% For the Planet, a global group of over one thousand companies that donate 1% of their sales to nearly two thousand environmental and advocacy organizations.

pdw donates lights to bta

PORTLAND, OR —Portland Design Works (PDW) donated 500 Radbot taillights, at a value of over $9,000, to Oregon’s Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA).

“We feel that giving back is part of the being in the Portland cycling community,” said PDW co-founder Dan Powell. “Working with the BTA is a privilege for us. After all, we’re able to utilize the fruits of their labor on a daily basis when we ride around Portland.”

Many of the lights will be used as incentive for potential Willamette Week Give!Guide donors to give to the BTA in 2010. From November 11 to December 31 a $25 donation to the BTA through the Give!Guide gets you a BTA membership, and a $50 donation snags you a Radbot to go along with the membership.

“Partners like PDW allow us to further our reach and impact while providing well designed, useful components to new and renewing members,” said BTA membership director Tom Rousculp. “Our relationship with PDW is not only rewarding, it's fun. That's what sets them apart.”

The lights were delivered to the BTA’s downtown Portland office via bike by PDW’s staff.

PDW and the BTA are proud members of 1% For The Planet.

portland design works launches

Portland, OR- January 19, 2009-

Industry veterans Erik Olson and Dan Powell have launched Portland Design Works (PDW), a new brand of urban bicycle accessories with a focus on simple, beautiful design. The first two categories of product, grips and inflation, will begin shipping in mid-February and can be viewed on the new PDW website, www.ridepdw.com. Cargo racks, tools, mini-pumps and fenders will be available by late spring.

PDW is still finalizing their national distribution lineup, but hopes to have their goods available nationwide by summer. Products will be available direct to bicycle shops in the city of Portland, and Powell and Olson will deliver the orders by bicycle.

“We want to be a part of the community, to have a connection,” says Olson, “plus making deliveries by bike is a great excuse to get out and ride.”

Olson and Powell last collaborated as the general manager and sales/marketing guy, respectively, for Planet Bike. The new venture is a dream come true for the native Midwesterners, who are excited to be living in Portland.

“You’d start a surf company near great waves, or a wind farm on an enormous plain. Likewise, we moved to Portland because its bike-friendly culture allows so many folks to get around easily by bike,” says Powell. “We wanted to design and test our gear in that great urban cycling atmosphere.”

PDW is a member of 1% For the Planet, an alliance of businesses that donate at least 1% of their annual revenues to environmental organizations worldwide.
