it's friday

you know what to do...

haulin'

Whew! I thought it was warm this morning when it was 85 and I was hauling a heavy box into work on my Surly. Turns out that was nuthin' compared to the 101 degree 13 mile ride I had when I decided to pick up a chair I bought on Craigslist with said Surly. Sun just about melted the brown right off the 'ol commuter.

hot, hot, hot

We've been over 100 degrees in Portland the last few days...it is pretty crazy. Word on the street a huge high pressure system is parked over the Pacific Northwest. That system is keeping the cooled air that typically cycles through the region out to sea. Couple this with the fact it has been a pretty dry summer, and the area is getting pretty brown and crunchy. Needless to say, we don't have AC here at PDW corporate HQ, so we are finding any way we can to stay cool. On my way home tonight from Veloshop, I'm thinking about taking a slight detour through McCall waterfront park to ride right through the fountain...

where ever you go, there you are

Our buddy Jeff Snyder recently took a little pedal down the coast of Oregon. As you can see, the scenery was terrible. Thanks for kicking out a little PDW love Jeff!

wee bike

Our friend Dan custom fabricated a tiny Trek single speed for his daughter, who we hear is already tearing up singletrack and going up and down tabletops. Check out the tiny carbon fork and little custom cranks. Sweet!

precious cargo

Our distributor in Japan, Teisuke, sent us this pic of him delivering some PDW grips to a customer. Totally sweet.

rose city fix

It has been mentioned on the pdw blog before, the photography book Rose City Fix is just about done. Over the weekend, I noticed this flyer. If you find yourself in Portland in the middle of next month, perhaps we'll bump into you at one of these events?

grillin and chillin at the TSTC

Summer has been in full swing in the Portland area the last few weeks. It is warm during the day, and cool when the sun goes down. It had also been a while since we had a gathering at the Tin Shed Technology Center (TSTC), so last Friday was the perfect storm. We had a good group again this time around, with folks showing up from 5 pm till late.

As per usual, bikes we jumped off of stuff, ping pong was contested, the lives of cans of domestic beer were mercilessly snuffed out, tons of food was grilled and people left happy. Thanks again to those that came out to show some love for PDW and Ruckus, it is always nice to meet folks, put faces with names, collaborate on projects, and we're always glad to have you.

Slim got the camera out again, and managed to capture a few shots of bikes flying through the air. Here are a few shots from the rear tire chair tap competition after all the food was gone:

new shirts

We've been talking about screening our own shirts for months, and this morning we got our chance to try our hands at it. Like I've mentioned on earlier posts, our pal Jesse Lalonde whipped up a rad design for us, and our neighbor Gabriel Sosa at Official Screens down here in SE Portland made the screen for us.

This morning, Gabriel invited us over to print up a half dozen shirts with his instruction so that we could learn the right way to "git er done," as the kids say. We rolled over there with our screen and some garments and here is what happened:

Step one, get the screen set up on the screen lift, center it, and tape it for easier clean up down the road. This was a four screen rotation station.

Step two, get the shirt in place. Doing it square and doing it quick takes a bit o' practice. That is Gabriel in the back ground. He obviously has a pretty rad set up.

Step three, ink the screen up and give the shirt a couple of passes. Not too much pressure now.

Step four, flash dry the first ink for about 20 seconds and pull it again. This will set up the first ink and the second pass and flash, will gel it giving you a bright, defined screen image.

Step five, the final dry. A shot from the driver seat.

Step six, rep it hard.

There are a few shirts available now, and we'll probably screen a whole bunch in the coming week. For $10 you can have one for yourself. Did I mention these are American Apparel shirts? I know, smoking deal huh?
